Suzuki debuted the dramatic four-door Concept Kizashi that could be a car of the future for the D-segment, a class which is typically comprised of family cars and entry-luxury cars.

This new entry would be the largest car from Suzuki. To fulfill the third aspect of the Japanese car company’s world strategy, this vehicle will give its owner a feeling of status by delivering a good balance of affordability and emotional appeal.

Also making its world debut is the Splash, a production model of the Project Splash concept that was first unveiled at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. The Splash is a family vehicle and shows how Suzuki is moving away from sporty vehicles such as the Swift, Grand Vitara and SX4.

With its new family car entry, Suzuki plans to deliver the same kind of dynamic driving experience as the Swift Sport, but with the level of refinement and attention to detail expected such as the 21-inch 9-spoke aluminium alloy wheels and large tyres.

With its dramatic styling, long sloping roofline and a high beltline, the car lives up to the design theme described by Suzuki as “grace and dynamism”. The priority is on performance while providing the roominess in the cabin that is expected in the segment.

The Kizashi also offers an example of what to expect for the drivetrain in the new models expected in 2009. Powered by a newly developed 2.0-litre turbodiesel and paired with a sequential 6-speed transmission, the concept is all-wheel driven. The Concept Kizashi is a clear sign of the great things to come from Suzuki as its plans for a larger car take shape.

Making a Splash

Built on a platform from the Swift, the Splash has a suspension tuned for sporty handling. Three engines will be offered: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol, a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol and a 1.3-liter DDiS common-rail diesel.

The tall body design creates a roomy vehicle with a high seating position. Inside is an instrument panel that includes a tray to store personal items and the centre console forms a smooth surface from the upper dash and incorporates the gear lever. The interior has a bold, creative design with colour-coordinated trim and four different interior colour combinations. To add a touch of individuality, interior elements such as air vents and gauges are uniquely shaped.

Suzuki is expected to make a “Splash” in Europe in spring 2008.
