Focusing on the European market as a key area of growth, Subaru introduced the 2007 Legacy and Outback in Paris and announced that the B9 Tribeca will be coming this way, too.
The 2007 Legacy and Outback have had the chassis updated for better handling and they will both feature SI-Drive, which stands for Subaru Intelligent Drive system, in versions equipped with the 3-litre engine.
The SI-Drive offers three different driving modes that change the engine control unit and transmission control unit based on the driver’s preference for better fuel economy or an emphasis on performance. The Intelligent mode delivers smooth power output and helps to improve fuel economy, while the Sport mode delivers power for sporty driving and the Sport Sharp mode boost engine performance.
The Legacy is offered as both a saloon and an estate in three versions, 2.0R, 3.0R and 3.0R spec B. The 2.0R is powered by a 165bhp 2-litre horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder and both the 3.0R and 3.0R spec B are powered by a 245bhp 3.0-litre horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder engines.
Exterior changes for the 2007 Legacy include different front bumpers for each version, aerodynamic mirrors with power fold function, new aluminum wheels for each trim, and bi-xenon headlights with pop-up headlight washers that are optional on 2.0R and standard on 3.0-litre versions. Interior changes include silver instrument panel accents with black center panel, dual-zone automatic climate control and telescopic steering wheel.
The Outback receives similar updates as the Legacy and is offered in two versions, Outback 2.51 and Outback 3.0R. The 2.5R is powered by a 165bhp 2.5-litre 4-cylinder and the 3.0R is powered by the same engine as the 3.0-litre Legacy.
The B9 Tribeca will join the Subaru lineup for Europe this autumn and has been refined to suit European driving style and road conditions. The suspension has been modified to improve both handling and ride comfort and safety features have been enhanced.
The B9 Tribeca is Subaru’s idea of a progressive crossover SUV that offers high levels of performance, design and utility. At the heart of the B9 Tribeca is Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD which is based on the horizontally-opposed Subaru boxer engine combined with a symmetrical powertrain to provide performance and the safety of all-wheel-drive.
To meet European expectations, Subaru has undertaken the development of the Boxer turbodiesel engine. The development is nearly complete and Subaru expects to unveil the Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel next year at the Geneva Motor Show.
